About:

The Northwoods League is a collegiate summer baseball league comprising teams of the top college players from North America and beyond. It is made up of 22 teams currently that are located all around the Midwest. All of these teams hire current college students to be summer interns. There are internships offered in event operations, marketing, ticket sales, video production, merchandising, and much more.

The internships typically run from mid-May to mid-August and are great way to get real world experience in the sports industry early on. All teams hiring and the links to their internship pages are listed below:

GMR Marketing Brand Ambassador

Description: GMR Marketing is hiring a College Sponsorship Brand Ambassador at UW-Madison. The job description is posted on Handshake (just search GMR Marketing). This is a part time job that pays $18/hour. The primary duty of the Brand Ambassador (BA) is to work with program management to execute scheduled program activities. While at a signed promotion, the BA will be building brand and company awareness and gain exposure and trial at promotional program activities. The position also requires the BA to regularly attend program trainings to keep up to date on current and relevant promotions and information related to their position. The position may involve occasional travel on a local level. The BA will also complete all other duties as assigned by program management and/or GMR Corporate Staff. GMR is a large sports-marketing agency based out of New Berlin, WI.

Description:

The UW Athletic Ticket Office (ATO) administers the sale, distribution, and reconciliation of tickets for athletic contests and other special events involving the University of Wisconsin, with the mission of maximizing ticket sales by providing excellent service. The athletic ticket office is responsible for ticketing all “home” regular and post-season events in each of the ticketed sports as well as “special events”, such as concerts at the Kohl Center as well as NCAA post-season competitions not involving University of Wisconsin athletic teams.

Students in this position operate as direct representative of Wisconsin Athletics in handling the following duties:

Over the phone and in-person athletic ticket sales (season tickets and single game tickets)
Over the phone and in person customer service (athletic events and special events)
Complimentary ticket administration (athletic events and special events)
Data entry, filing, preparing mailings and other duties as assigned.

Description:

redcard currently feeds 23 athletic departments and that number is growing. The process for feeding the athletes is that a meal is scheduled through their system by the athletic department and athletes have access to the app to make their purchases. A picture of the POS receipt is captured by the merchant and is sent to their dashboard. They have a group of student auditors who go through all 15,000+ receipts per week to ensure that all NCAA compliance rules were met.

They are looking for someone to be in charge of the auditors, review receipts, and help with miscellaneous issues that come up with any school. Their current list is as follows: Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Cal, Iowa, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon State, Rutgers, Mississippi State, Charlotte, USC, Texas- San Antonio, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Western Michigan, Maryland, Georgia, South Carolina, Western Kentucky, and Wisconsin.

For interested candidates, trust is at the top of the list of importance. The intern will see what all of these athletes eat and get an insight into their behaviors. This information can not be shared or talked about. More responsibilities can come with proving attention to detail, desire to learn, and idea generation for improving the program. redcard wants this person to learn from the experience so they are open to letting them sit in on calls with athletic directors, travel to the various schools when required, or go to the conferences we attend, College and Professional Sports Dietitian Association, Director of Football Operations, Athletic Director conferences for Compliance and business directors.

They will pay $15 per hour, their office is on State Street. You must be in the office several times per week, much of the work can be done remotely. Some weeks they will have 5-10 hours of work, but it could reach as much as 20. There is a lot of flexibility as to when these hours are worked. They will permanently need this position so the ideal candidate will be here 1-2 years. This could turn into a job upon graduation.

POSITION SUMMARY/JOB DUTIES:

Oversight of the Area Red Student Fan Board
- Coordinate 6-10 member executive student board
